Iconic Persona Demon Designer Brings 3,600 AI-Generated Cards to Upcoming Switch Game

Kazuma Kaneko, renowned as the “Demon Designer” and the creative force behind the Shin Megami Tensei series, every mainline Persona title, and most recently, Metaphor: ReFantazio, has unveiled his latest project: a card game featuring AI-generated artwork titled Kazuma Kaneko’s Tsukuyomi. Similar to his earlier title, Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter, Kaneko is deeply involved in the game’s concept and character design, even making an appearance in-game—albeit as an AI version of himself. Developed by mobile game studio Colopl, this new title is set to launch on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on April 23, priced at $24.99. For those looking for something special, the “Shinma Artist Box” edition will be available for around $640.

This announcement coincided with the news that Colopl’s previous free-to-play collaboration with Kaneko, Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter, will conclude on April 22, just a day before the release of Kazuma Kaneko’s Tsukuyomi. The reveal took place during a livestream event on Colopl’s official YouTube channel.

In Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter, players could create their own AI artwork cards using the “AI Kaneko” feature, where the in-game Kazuma Kaneko would analyze their playstyles and provide AI-generated cards from a library of his artwork. However, Kazuma Kaneko’s Tsukuyomi will not include this mechanic; instead, it will feature a selection of 3,600 of the developer’s favorite AI Kaneko-produced cards from the previous game.

A representative from Colopl clarified that the Switch version will incorporate a curated selection of these AI-generated cards but will not have the generative AI model to create new cards beyond what has been included.

Additionally, as highlighted by Automaton, the official Kazuma Kaneko’s Tsukuyomi website mentions that the game utilizes generative AI for creating images, videos, and music. While the developers express their commitment to preventing unauthorized use and rights infringement, this confirms that generative AI tools play a significant role in nearly every aspect of the game’s development.
