Emails Uncover Jeffrey Epstein’s Xbox Live Ban

Earlier today, the Department of Justice unveiled over three million pages of documents related to convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. As people sift through the newly released emails and files, we’re uncovering more about Epstein, his high-profile connections, and an interesting tidbit: he was banned from Xbox Live more than a decade ago.

On Friday, an email from December 2013 surfaced, sent from Microsoft and Xbox Live to an email address Epstein frequently used for his illicit activities. This message informed him that his Xbox account had been permanently banned due to “harassment, threats, and/or abuse of other players.” While this might suggest he was up to no good on Xbox Live, a follow-up email from Xbox a few hours later clarified the reason for the ban.

The ban was a result of Epstein being a registered sex offender, as Xbox collaborates with law enforcement to keep such individuals off its gaming network. Although Epstein had been on the sex offender registry for years, another email indicates he didn’t create his Xbox account until October 2012. Microsoft had joined a New York-led initiative in April 2012 aimed at removing registered sex offenders from online platforms, which explains the delay in his account being flagged.

It remains uncertain whether Epstein actively used his Xbox Live account for gaming. Other emails from the recent document release show him inquiring about an Xbox 360 Kinect in 2014 and questioning a $25.24 charge on Xbox in 2019.
