Sam Raimi expresses interest in returning for a Spider-Man sequel.
Stop us if you’ve heard this before. After initially expressing satisfaction with passing the Spider-Man torch to a new generation of creators, Sam Raimi, the director of the Tobey Maguire trilogy, seems to have had a change of heart.
In a recent interview discussing his new film, Raimi was asked if there was any chance he might return to direct another Spider-Man film featuring his version of the character. His main concern, however, revolves around how this could impact the current Spider-Man portrayed by Tom Holland.
“I think the kids would like to see [Tobey’s Spider-Man],” Raimi noted. “Right now, Marvel is very successful on their own path with their Spider-Man, who is involved with The Avengers and other superheroes.” According to Raimi, even with the possibility of Maguire returning alongside Holland and Andrew Garfield, now isn’t the right time to revisit his version of the character. However, he hasn’t completely ruled it out.
“I don’t think it makes sense right now to disrupt that great, successful run they’re having, just to let me make another Spider-Man movie,” he stated. “I’d love to. The day might come, and I’d love to do it.” So, what seemed like a closed chapter just days ago might still have a chance of reopening. That said, considering the current landscape of the MCU, a standalone story featuring Maguire’s Spider-Man could be a tough sell. For now, fans can look forward to Tom Holland’s return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
