GTA: San Andreas Speedrunners Uncover 31-Step Skip to Complete PC Version in Under an Hour After 21 Years

A wild new speedrunning skip has been uncovered in the original PC version of GTA: San Andreas, which has been around for 21 years now.

Given the game’s age and popularity, it’s no surprise that players have discovered countless glitches, tricks, and complex skips over the years. Recently, a mind-boggling 30-step skip was revealed that allows players to complete this classic open-world title in under an hour.

As a Reddit user detailed, the Windows Store remaster of San Andreas was cracked open a couple of years back thanks to a technique known as the Arbitrary Jump in Script (AJS) skip. Describing the skip sounds almost surreal, as it requires players to perform “an extremely precise and illogical-sounding sequence of actions.” The end result? Speedrunners can execute a JUMP instruction that takes them straight to the game’s conclusion.

Not long ago, a different AJS skip was discovered in the Definitive Edition of GTA: San Andreas, which involved another set of seemingly nonsensical steps. The impact of these AJS skips was so significant that speedrunning categories were divided into any% and any% no AJS.

Now, a new AJS skip has emerged for the original PC port of San Andreas. The step-by-step guide shared on Reddit is absolutely wild, featuring tasks like winning $10,000 through horse betting, duplicating the main script, intentionally submerging your bike in a lake eight times, and breaking the game to the point where the world turns into a “black void,” among other bizarre actions.

Thanks to this latest AJS skip, speedrunner creezyful has managed to trim the any% run down to just 53 minutes and 46 seconds, and it’s likely that this record will continue to be challenged in the coming weeks.
