This RPG, clearly inspired by Paper Mario, has launched after five years and is receiving excellent reviews on Steam and consoles.
In recent years, a wave of indie games has drawn inspiration from the charming style and turn-based, timing-focused combat of Paper Mario, but Escape from Ever After stands out as a title that truly captures the essence of what made the Nintendo classic so beloved.
This paper cutout RPG made its debut on January 23 and has received outstanding reviews on Steam. As of now, it boasts a ‘Very Positive’ rating, with an impressive 97% of players recommending it.
“Best Paper Mario since Thousand Year Door, easily stands alongside Bug Fables as one of the best turn-based indie games to mimic the Nintendo Legend,” one player enthusiastically shares, highlighting its fantastic soundtrack, witty writing, and clever combat mechanics.
“I completely lost track of time while playing this awesome game, spending hours enjoying it without even noticing. I’ve just finished the first part, and it’s already proving to be everything I was hoping for and more,” another player adds.
The premise of Escape from Ever After is instantly captivating. “When a greedy megacorp from the real world starts taking over fairytales for their cheap labor, a newly-hired storybook hero must climb the corporate ladder, rally together other disgruntled employees, and fight back,” the game’s description explains.
On social media, the developer celebrated the game’s release after “5 long years” of development. It’s now available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
