New Anime from Fullmetal Alchemist Creator Set to Premiere Soon

Hiromu Arakawa, renowned for her iconic manga Fullmetal Alchemist, hasn’t slowed down since wrapping up Edward and Alphonse’s journey. Following her realistic slice-of-life series Silver Spoon, set in the serene Japanese countryside, and the fantasy epic The Heroic Legend of Arslan, her latest creation is Daemons of the Shadow Realm. The anime adaptation, which was announced for 2025, now has a confirmed release date of April 4, 2026.

This date was revealed alongside a new trailer that introduced some of the characters in a narrative blending intense battles, Japanese folklore, and familiar themes from Arakawa’s works, such as sibling bonds. The story follows Yuru and Asa, siblings from the secluded Higashi Village, who find themselves separated and must battle to reunite while harnessing the powers of Daemons—spiritual guardians that operate in pairs and follow their master’s commands.

However, the plot delves deeper as Yuru becomes entangled in the schemes and rivalries of powerful Daemon users. Growing up in a village that feels stuck in time, he has developed survival skills that serve him well in combat but leave him feeling out of sync with the modern world, adding a humorous twist to the series. Notably, Daemons of the Shadow Realm will be animated by Bones, the studio behind Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which is often hailed as one of the greatest anime ever made.

If Bones maintains its reputation for adapting Arakawa’s stories, Daemons of the Shadow Realm could emerge as one of the standout anime surprises of 2026. The series is set to air for two consecutive hours, promising fans a substantial adaptation of the ongoing manga.
