Podracing Set to Feature in 2026’s Most Stylish Star Wars Game

Don’t fret, podracing enthusiasts! Although the debut trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer didn’t showcase any podracers, rest assured that these legendary high-speed vehicles will be included in the full game.

First revealed at last year’s Game Awards, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an exciting new racing title set in that beloved galaxy far, far away. Developed by a team of former Burnout developers at Fuse Games, a studio launched in 2023, the game looks promising and even features Sebulba in its teaser. However, the absence of podracing vehicles in that initial reveal had fans, including myself, concerned about missing out on the thrilling podracing scene from 1999’s The Phantom Menace. Thankfully, podracers will indeed be part of Galactic Racer.

In a recent chat, the CEO and co-founder of Fuse Games, Matt Webster, confirmed that podracing is essential to their Star Wars racing experience.

“You can’t really make a Star Wars racing experience and not have podracing, can you?” Webster remarked. “The core fantasy of the game is becoming an elite racing pilot in the Galactic League, and podracing is a pinnacle of speed and racing in the Star Wars galaxy.”

He also mentioned that while they wanted to include podracing, the team aimed to expand the experience by incorporating various vehicle types and expressions of speed. Galactic Racer will allow players to pilot familiar vehicles alongside new ones, offering a diverse range of solo and multiplayer modes.

Even better, Galactic Racer will feature a first-person driving option, which is my go-to way to enjoy podracing games. Now, all I need is for Webster or someone else at Fuse Games to confirm that the Boonta Eve Classic race course, a staple in past podracing titles like Star Wars Racer’s Revenge, will be available in Galactic Racer. If that happens, I’ll be one happy wookiee when the game launches on consoles and PC later this year.
