It’s been seven years since we were treated to Red Dead Redemption 2, but creative fans are still enhancing this action-adventure masterpiece with mods—one of which adds a delightful Pokémon twist.
If you haven’t seen it yet, content creator and former software engineer Blurbs has once again impressed with a wildly entertaining mod. This isn’t his first foray into the bizarre; he previously crafted a real-life version of Oblivion Remastered’s persuasion minigame. However, this Pokémon-themed mod is one of his most remarkable works, completely transforming Red Dead Redemption 2.
In his latest YouTube video, Blurbs details the mod, humorously claiming it turns Red Dead Redemption 2 into a “legally distinct” Pokémon-style RPG, featuring custom move sets, types, and even Gym Leaders—who happen to be the Van der Linde gang. As for the creatures, there’s a plethora to catch and battle.
You can expect to encounter turtles, skunks, horses, dogs, and even fish (not Magikarp, though). There are also “legendary” creatures to capture, like the elk Blurbs showcases in the mod. Overall, it looks like a hilarious and entertaining blend of Nintendo and Rockstar’s finest, a mashup I never imagined would come to life. Who knows, I might get to experience it myself someday if luck is on my side.
Excitingly, Blurbs plans to release this mod to the public, but he’ll need some time to refine the code. It’s worth noting that the mod “specifically works in tandem with streaming software.” While you can play it without streaming, you’ll need OBS (a streaming software) installed for it to function. There’s no set launch date yet, but Blurbs will share one when he’s ready.
