In case you haven’t heard, welcome to the chaos! Now, take off your hat and tune into AI Astro Bot’s podcast, where the Ghost of Yotei might just have some sharp advice for you. Sony has recently patented a concept for custom AI-generated podcasts.

These would be “LLM-BASED GENERATIVE PODCASTS FOR GAMERS,” as noted in the World Intellectual Property Organization database. Sony envisions these podcasts as “unique, personalized news updates tailored to individual gamers,” and while the patent was published at the end of January, the idea has been brewing for a while, with the application dating back to 2024.

Picture this: the PS5 home screen prompts you with “Your Personalized Podcast Is Ready!” and you actually want to click it. Sony suggests that these podcasts could feature news delivered in the voice of a video game character you’ve already played.

Imagine Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn taking a break from her adventures to offer you tips like, “Also, try a spin move on the boss next time!” You might need to share some data from your gaming profile, but don’t worry about privacy—Sony implies that by owning their console, you’re okay with that.

“In some cases, the audio may include a joke at the gamer’s expense,” Sony mentions. Hopefully, that puts your mind at ease.

“We do not police how developers make their games,” says the Epic Games Store head, emphasizing that “we let players decide” on titles that utilize generative AI.
