Xcode Integrates OpenAI and Anthropic Coding Tools

Apple is integrating AI-powered coding agents from OpenAI and Anthropic directly into Xcode. The new features in Xcode 26.3 will allow developers to utilize Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex for tasks like writing and editing code, updating project settings, and searching documentation.

Xcode is the go-to software for developers creating and testing applications for iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. While Claude and ChatGPT were previously accessible within Xcode, this update enhances their functionality, enabling these AI agents to perform actions directly in the app rather than just offering coding support.

Additionally, Apple is introducing Xcode through the Model Context Protocol, an open-source standard that will allow developers to integrate other AI tools into the application.

The announcement of the Xcode update follows closely on the heels of OpenAI’s launch of its AI-powered Codex app for Mac, which enables developers to code alongside a team of AI agents. Apple has stated that Xcode 26.3 will be available to members of the Apple Developer Program starting today, with a broader release expected soon on the App Store.
