Claude Code Outage Leads Developers to Take an Extended Coffee Break

Claude AI models from Anthropic faced a significant outage today, affecting tools like Claude Code. Developers encountered a 500 error when attempting to access Claude Code, and Anthropic reported increased error rates across all its Claude models.

The team quickly pinpointed the issue and rolled out a fix in about 20 minutes, but developers relying on the service were left waiting for it to come back online. Additionally, Claude Opus 4.5 ran into some errors yesterday, and earlier this week, Anthropic addressed problems with its AI credits purchasing system.

It’s rare for Claude Code to experience such a major disruption, especially given its widespread use among developers, including those at Microsoft.

Update, February 3rd: The outage affecting the Claude API has now been resolved.
