Terraria 1.4.5 has arrived, and if you’ve snagged a Lucky Clover or two after the Bigger and Boulder update, you might be wondering what to do with them. Or perhaps, like me, you’ve had no luck finding one and are feeling a bit lost. I totally understand.

As the designated base manager in my friend group, I’m often at home organizing NPCs, living spaces, and our chaotic setups. So when my friends came back with a bunch of those ‘magically delicious’ greens and no clue where they found them, I had to figure out how to get a Lucky Clover in Terraria and determine if it was a valuable find or just junk.

You can snag a Lucky Clover by chopping down tall grass. Just make sure you’re targeting the taller blades; the shorter ones won’t yield anything. Lucky Clovers are pretty rare—I couldn’t find one when I was desperately searching for proof of their existence—but over several days of playing with friends, I’ve managed to gather a small stash.

Terraria’s combat turns you into a bit of a lawnmower, so be sure to sift through any loot piles left behind after defending your forest or jungle bases, or while waiting for Foxparks to spawn on the surface. Lucky Clovers can be easy to overlook, and I’ve picked them up more than once without even realizing it.

Honestly, that’s how I find most things. They seem to vanish until I stop looking.

The Lucky Clover grants you a bit of extra luck as long as it’s in your inventory, which might explain why the tooltip advises against eating it (though I almost tossed mine out). You can check your luck by chatting with the Wizard, who will give you a rough idea of your chances for big wins.

If you’re aiming to attract Terraria pals like Foxparks or Cattiva, I recommend keeping your stash of Lucky Clovers handy, even if it takes up inventory space. It may not seem like much, but every little bit helps when trying to trigger the goblin event… or any of Terraria’s other elusive spawns.

You can remove Lucky Clovers from your inventory to negate their effect, or if you’re feeling a bit cheeky, toss them into some Shimmer for a dose of negative luck. This strange, shiny ooze can transform various items, but your little plant buddy will turn into a Wilted Lucky Clover and lose its charm.
