Amy Adams is having a rough day in the intense first look at Apple TV’s Cape Fear remake. Luckily, we’re having a better time, as the streamer has confirmed the show’s premiere date: June 5.
This new 10-episode series is based on Martin Scorsese’s 1991 thriller, which itself drew inspiration from John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel The Executioners. The show features Dune star Javier Bardem as Max Cady, a recently released killer seeking revenge on the lawyers who imprisoned him. This spells trouble for Adams’ character, Anna, and Patrick Wilson’s Tom, who look understandably worried in the newly released images.
While the stills don’t reveal much, it seems likely that Adams and Bardem are in the same scene, both dressed to the nines at a high-profile event. The presence of microphones suggests that the grinning Cady has just made his first appearance to Anna since his conviction, and judging by her expression, she certainly didn’t expect to see him again.
In another image, Wilson sports a blue shirt and a concerned expression while standing in an opulent yard. Although we haven’t seen the full cast in character yet, Joe Anders (1917), Lily Collias (Roofman), Jamie Hector (The Wire), Malia Pyles (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin), and Anna Baryshnikov (Love Lies Bleeding) complete the ensemble.
In Scorsese’s original, which was a remake of Gregory Peck’s 1962 adaptation, Cady was portrayed by Robert De Niro, with Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange playing the couple he aimed to destroy. Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets) also starred as their daughter.
This time, Nick Antosca, known for creating the horror anthology Channel Zero and Netflix’s Brand New Flavor, serves as showrunner. Scorsese takes on executive producing duties alongside Adams, Bardem, and Steven Spielberg.
Cape Fear premieres on June 5, releasing its first two episodes simultaneously, with the remaining eight airing weekly. For more, check out our picks of the best shows to watch right now or our guide to the most exciting new series coming your way.
