Fallout season 2 has wrapped up, and what a ride it’s been! From explosive encounters to mutant mayhem, this season has delivered some unforgettable moments. Luckily, a third season is already in the works.
Since the series ties into the game lore, there’s a lot of background that might leave casual viewers scratching their heads. What’s the Enclave? What’s FEV? What’s happening with Thaddeus? We’ve got you covered with answers to your burning questions following the finale of Fallout season 2, along with a recap so you don’t have to rewatch everything.
Be warned: major spoilers for both Fallout season 2 and Fallout: New Vegas lie ahead!
As civil unrest brews, Caesar’s Legion faces internal strife. Frustrated, Legate opens Caesar’s final note to determine the next leader. It reads, “I am Caesar. I am the Legion. It ends with me.” Ignoring this, Legate kills the witness and crowns himself as the new Caesar.
Meanwhile, in the Vegas vault, a Ghoul demands that Robert House (now immortalized on a computer screen) take him to his family. As they navigate the halls, House reveals that despite his efforts to stay ahead of the apocalypse, he never anticipated the Enclave’s power. He confirms that Cooper handed the cold fusion diode directly to the Enclave, which the last President was part of.
Cut to Cooper and Barb celebrating at the airport, believing their troubles are behind them. Hank and Steph approach, excited about their upcoming wedding and job prospects at Vault-Tec. Suddenly, all the payphones start ringing.
On the surface, Bud’s Buds are about to eliminate Norm when a swarm of Radroaches emerges from an elevator shaft, taking them out (except for Norm and Claudia).
On the Strip, the battle against the Deathclaws rages on. Maximus nearly meets his end, but Thaddeus (who seems to be mutating) manages to fend them off with a sniper shot—using his foot, no less. Max, determined to fight, grabs a stick and a poker table. Just as the Deathclaws charge, the New California Republic arrives to save the day.
In the management Vault, Lucy confronts the severed head of Congresswoman Diane Welch, who begs her to end her suffering. Lucy reluctantly complies. Hank then reveals his twisted plan to turn humans into robots, using Diane’s personality to rewrite the minds of the chipped. He attempts to implant a chip in Lucy to make her “his little girl again.”
Just in time, the Ghoul shoots Hank and hands Lucy the gun. She implants the chip in Hank’s neck, forcing him outside and threatening to turn him into a mindless zombie. Hank claims the Legion is coming and offers to help save humanity, but Lucy knows better. He reveals that his “R&D” has already been sent into the Wasteland, and that the “surface was always the experiment,” before activating his own chip. Lucy cries as he no longer recognizes her. As she looks around, Maximus appears, and they finally reunite.
In Vault 32, the dwellers are demanding Steph come out to face the music. Realizing she has no choice, she opens a box given to her by Betty. Inside is a special Pip-Boy designed for the Enclave. She puts it on and declares herself Hank Maclean’s wife, initiating “Phase 2.”
We cut between the Ghoul entering the cryopod chamber and Coop answering a payphone at the airport. House warns him that whatever is about to happen isn’t his doing. As Coop realizes he’s being watched by the Enclave, police arrive to arrest him on behalf of the House Un-American Activities Committee. The Ghoul finds Barb and Janey’s cryopods empty, but discovers a postcard in Barb’s pod that reads, “Colorado was a good idea.” Ignoring House’s comment about living in a fantasy, he removes the Pip-Boy and leaves the Vault.
Max and Lucy return to the management Vault, climbing to a vantage point to see the approaching Legion. Lucy laments her role in the impending war, but Max reassures her. Meanwhile, the Ghoul heads toward Colorado.
In a post-credits scene, Dane presents Elder Quintus with blueprints for a new version of Liberty Prime, a powerful robot from the series. This suggests the Brotherhood of Steel now has the means to challenge the other factions in the civil war, including the Legion.
