Just when we thought Fallout season 2 had wrapped up, the post-credits scene threw in another twist: the Brotherhood’s most formidable weapon. Game producer Todd Howard confirmed that this reveal was always part of the plan.
Warning: spoilers for the Fallout season 2 finale follow.
As the acclaimed sci-fi series concludes its second season, the post-credits scene of Fallout season 2, episode 8, reveals the Brotherhood of Steel in a power struggle. Dane intervenes, delivering a crucial document to Elder Cleric Quintus, which turns out to be blueprints for Liberty Prime Alpha—a massive robotic suit designed for warfare.
“Giant robots,” Howard stated. “It was always a question of how and when, not if. We’re thrilled that the show is going to explore that.” While the introduction of Liberty Prime Alpha was initially surprising, it aligns perfectly with the lore, as the robot first appeared in the video games Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, both of which Howard contributed to.
In Fallout 3, Liberty Prime serves as a powerful ally to the player character, the Lone Wanderer, but is ultimately destroyed. In Fallout 4, players can rebuild the robot, and if they ally with the Brotherhood, they can use Liberty Prime to assault the Institute.
The robot wreaks havoc in the games, suggesting that in the series, such a weapon could tip the scales against Caesar’s Legion, the New California Republic, and other foes. In essence, the introduction of Liberty Prime Alpha dramatically alters the landscape heading into Fallout season 3.
