For fans of Pluribus, series creator Vince Gilligan has confirmed that work is underway on season 2, though he cautions that it won’t be as quick as other shows.

“We’re making progress. My writers are hard at work. If you enjoy the show, thank you for supporting us. Crafting these episodes takes time,” Gilligan shared during a press event. “We’re further along in the process than I’d prefer, given how few episodes we have mapped out. But it requires time, just like the first season did.”

Gilligan acknowledges the rapid pace at which other series are releasing new seasons but emphasizes that Pluribus “won’t be like The Pitt, returning every year.” He added, “I wish it could be because it’s a fantastic show, reminiscent of how we used to do The X-Files, returning the same month each year. It won’t be like The Pitt. We’ll return in the same month – the question is which year.”

The medical drama The Pitt premiered on HBO in January 2025 and returned almost exactly a year later in 2026. Based on Gilligan’s comments, we shouldn’t expect Pluribus, which debuted in November 2025, to return in November 2026, or possibly even 2027. While Breaking Bad aired consecutive seasons from 2008 to 2012, it’s increasingly uncommon for shows to follow that pattern today, with series like House of the Dragon taking two years between seasons.

Following Better Call Saul star Rhea Pluribus as a disillusioned writer named Carol who must save the world from happiness, Pluribus season 1 received acclaim from both audiences and critics, achieving an impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the season finale left viewers on a cliffhanger, heightening anticipation for the show’s return.

Pluribus is available for streaming on Apple TV.
