Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 Faces Indefinite Delay

It’s a tough break for gamers eager to see Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 4 land on the Nintendo Switch 2 this year: it seems that may no longer be in the cards.

This news follows an announcement from Take-Two Interactive during its quarterly earnings call, revealing that development on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 has been put on hold. The game initially launched on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with a Switch 2 release slated for October 4. However, October has come and gone, and updates on the looter-shooter’s arrival on the platform have been few and far between.

Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis confirmed the pause in development, stating, “We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU. Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players while optimizing the game. We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 coming out for Switch 2, and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”

Reports indicate that the Nintendo Switch 2 release has been removed from Take-Two’s upcoming games chart, where it was previously marked with a “TBA” release date. While Borderlands 4 is still listed on the official 2K store for the Nintendo Switch 2, the option to pre-order has been disabled. The hope of experiencing the latest Borderlands on the Nintendo Switch 2 now seems to be fading.

This is a significant disappointment for Nintendo fans, marking a somber turn for Gearbox Software’s innovative take on the looter-shooter genre. The game had been praised for its fresh approach, revitalizing a formula that’s been around for 15 years. It’s unfortunate that Nintendo players won’t get the chance to dive into this new adventure.
