In the latest preview for Resident Evil Requiem on the Switch 2, we see special agent Leon Kennedy in a stylish leather jacket, looking intense as he aims his gun at the ceiling, reminiscent of a child left alone for too long.
However, something feels off. Why did the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase mention Resident Evil without showcasing any blood? Are we meant to be comforted by the rough edges around the Green Herb? Who put Leon in this awkward position? Check out the new Switch 2 trailer and see for yourself.
It seems many have rightly pointed out that Nintendo is steering clear of showcasing anything more violent than a Goomba stomp during its livestreams, as the company has shifted towards a more family-friendly approach. Even the legendary Indiana Jones couldn’t deliver a single punch in his new Showcase trailer.
“Are you censoring this one too?” one viewer commented on the YouTube listing for Resident Evil Requiem’s Switch 2 preview. We’ve reached out to Nintendo for clarification.
Once you get past the rough animations I overlooked during my Resident Evil Requiem preview on PS5, you’ll see Nintendo’s Leon gritting his teeth, missing a mutant’s head while aiming down sights, or wildly swinging a chainsaw at thin air.
“With his physical prowess,” the trailer narrator chimes in. Sure, I’ll keep telling myself that.
The director assures us that Resident Evil Requiem won’t face the multi-protagonist issues seen in RE6, as Grace and Leon team up seamlessly: “We’re the ‘inventors of sushi’ here.”
