Xbox Strategizes for 2026 While Steering Clear of GTA 6’s Release

Xbox had a strong showing in 2025 with a slew of major game releases, marking a bright spot in the year for the platform. Looking ahead to 2026, fans can expect new installments in four of its classic franchises: Forza, Gears, Halo, and Fable. However, recent reports suggest that Xbox is strategically planning to steer clear of the massive launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set for November.

A recent report shared intriguing insights into Xbox’s roadmap for 2026. Notably, the company is developing a new “next-gen” Xbox controller that will feature Wi-Fi connectivity, aimed at minimizing lag during cloud gaming sessions. Among the most exciting revelations are details about three major titles slated for release in 2026.

According to the report, Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remaster of the original game, is on track for a summer release. Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel to the original Gears, is tentatively scheduled for fall, coinciding with the long-awaited reboot of Fable. Xbox appears to have a clear timeline for the launches of both Fable and Gears, but they are keen to avoid a release too close to GTA 6’s November 19 debut. With marketing for the next GTA expected to kick off in the summer, it seems unlikely that it will be delayed, putting pressure on Xbox to navigate their release dates carefully. Forza Horizon 6 is set to launch in May, well ahead of GTA 6.

Additionally, Double Fine’s newly announced game, the online pottery smasher Kiln, is expected to release in April. Starfield is also gearing up for new content “soon,” and the long-rumored PS5 port is reportedly on the verge of being revealed. For those hoping for a Fallout 3 remaster following the season two finale of Amazon’s Fallout show, there’s good news: the remaster is still in development.

2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Xbox games. Ironically, this new chapter of having a robust lineup coincides with the trend of porting many of these titles to other consoles. The gaming landscape is certainly an unpredictable one.
