Hideo Kojima, the mastermind behind Metal Gear and Death Stranding, is back at it again. This time, he’s diving into video editing, likely working on a trailer, but for which game? It’s tough to say, but many speculate it could be a port or re-release of a blockbuster sequel from last year.
He shared a photo of himself at a desk, with video editing software open. The tweet’s caption reads, “Editing for the first time in… eight months?” While nothing too revealing is visible, the left side of the screen appears to display “A Hideo Kojima Game.”
This phrase is a signature element of his game trailers, and it’s also featured in teasers for the second Death Stranding, presented in classic white text on a black background. The horror game from Kojima Productions for Xbox Game Studios also includes this phrase in its first trailer.

Speculation is swirling that he might be preparing to announce Death Stranding 2 for PC, possibly with a director’s cut similar to the first game, or maybe some DLC. The first option seems to be the most popular theory. “DS2 the director’s cut must be on the way,” says one of the top replies.
“PC trailer for DS2?” asks another. These comments echo the sentiments of many, and his post aligns with rumors that the next State of Play presentation from Sony is set for this month, February 2026. It’s traditionally the time for such announcements.
While something related to OD is possible, an Xbox Developer Direct just took place two weeks ago, and the last trailer for that game was released in September 2025. An update on that front seems a bit far off. Physint could also be in the mix, but substantial news on that seems even further away given the limited information available.
Interestingly, Kojima made a nearly identical tweet last year on February 5, but Death Stranding 2 didn’t make an appearance at that month’s State of Play. Whatever this new project is, you can bet his cryptic posts will keep coming.

Hideo Kojima calls Death Stranding 2 his “masterpiece,” but that’s just because his “latest work” is always his best.
