Nvidia’s RTX 50 Super refresh is postponed, and the RTX 60 series may not arrive until after 2027.
The anticipated Super refresh of Nvidia’s RTX 50-series GPUs was expected to debut at CES 2026 in January, but it didn’t show up. Reports indicate that Nvidia’s management opted to delay the release, focusing instead on AI chips due to a current shortage of RAM. Additionally, Nvidia is cutting back production of its existing gaming chips, the RTX 50-series, which are already in high demand and frequently sold out.
This shift in focus from gaming GPUs comes after Nvidia achieved record revenue, largely thanks to its AI chips. In Q3 2026, data center revenue accounted for $51.2 billion of the total $57 billion reported, while gaming revenue, despite a 30 percent increase, represents a smaller portion of the overall earnings than it once did.
The delay of the RTX 50-series Super means there are no new gaming GPU launches from Nvidia planned for this year, and it could also impact the timeline for next-generation cards. Sources suggest that the RTX 60-series was initially set to enter mass production by the end of 2027, but this delay could push it into 2028 or beyond.
While there’s a possibility that Nvidia could accelerate the timeline for its new gaming GPUs, the ongoing RAM shortage is causing price hikes and delays across various tech products, meaning PC gamers may need to hold off on hardware upgrades for the time being.
