In the latest buzz, Xbox Game Studios is reportedly gearing up to launch the remake of Halo: Campaign Evolved this summer. However, there are concerns that the highly anticipated GTA 6, set to release on November 19, might overshadow it, along with the Fable reboot and Gears of War: E-Day.
So, what does Campaign Evolved mean for Xbox? Is it just an afterthought? According to Tom Warren, sources at Microsoft anticipate Campaign Evolved’s summer release, coinciding with Take-Two’s marketing push for GTA 6. While Xbox isn’t overly worried, they are mindful of GTA 6’s impact on their scheduling for Fable in the fall and Gears of War in the latter half of 2026.
This situation paints a picture of a more cautious Xbox than what studio head Craig Duncan suggested in a January interview, where he remarked on Rockstar’s approach, saying, “They’re going to do what they’re going to do.”
Duncan acknowledged, “There are always other games and factors to consider. We want to space things out to ensure each game has its own, as we call it, ‘oxygen’ during its launch.” He also noted the increasing competition for players’ time, making it challenging to find a suitable launch window.
Considering the multitude of showcases, surprise drops, and unpredictable industry events, it’s hard to argue with his perspective. “It’s always busy, and there’s never really a good time to launch something,” Duncan stated. If the timing isn’t favorable for what Halo Studios describes as the “faithful and modernized remake” of Campaign Evolved, then so be it.
