After a successful run in theaters, Markiplier has announced that his new horror film Iron Lung will be leaving cinemas in one week for a home release.
“It’ll be in theaters for another week, but we’re gearing up for you to enjoy it at home,” said YouTuber-turned-director Markiplier (real name Mark Fischbach) during a livestream. “The whole translation process will take some time… But we’re working on getting it ready for home release, including DVD and Blu-ray options.”
Iron Lung premiered in theaters on January 30 and earned over $20 million during its opening weekend, a remarkable feat considering its $3 million budget. Based on Fischbach’s remarks, it seems the film will wrap up its theatrical run around Valentine’s Day weekend, so fans can expect to purchase it for home viewing shortly after, depending on the packaging timeline.
The director is committed to releasing the film on his own terms, even after its theatrical run. “We’re doing this independently from start to finish,” Fischbach added. “This project will remain independent throughout, and I think that’s pretty awesome.” He financed the horror film himself and managed the entire marketing campaign through his social media channels.
Written and directed by Fischbach, Iron Lung features him as a convict trapped inside a submarine, navigating through a blood ocean. The film is set on a post-apocalyptic moon, mirroring the 2022 game of the same name that inspired it.
