Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, as revealed in the recent Direct presentation. For those who haven’t yet embarked on the epic 90+ hour journey of the sequel, excitement is in the air. However, be prepared, as this massive title will require 102GB of storage on your Switch 2.
The official Switch 2 SD card is back in stock for $59, offering 256GB of additional storage. With its charming Super Mario design, this microSD Express card tends to sell out quickly, but it’s available just in time to expand your handheld’s capacity without needing to cast Haste.
The 256GB Samsung Switch 2 microSD Express Card, priced at $59, not only looks great with its vibrant red design but also boasts transfer speeds of up to 800 MB/s. I managed to transfer the 21.9GB Mario Kart World in just over 5 minutes on my Switch 2. While it may not be the fastest option out there, it provides solid speeds and ample space for FF7 Rebirth and other storage-heavy games. In the UK, it’s available for £44.99.
If you’re planning to pick up Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Switch 2, having extra storage from a microSD Express Card like this Samsung model is essential. The console comes with 256GB of built-in space, but a portion of that is reserved for system files.
If your handheld is free of other games, you could manage with just the 256GB for your FF7 adventures. However, having a card allows you to download more games simultaneously, especially if you need a break from your Queens Blood card game sessions. (You’ll understand once you dive into FF7 Rebirth.)
While the Samsung microSD Express card is a great choice, there are plenty of compatible options available. Keep in mind that higher capacity cards come with a higher price tag. For instance, the Lexar 512GB Play PRO microSD Express Card is currently priced at $94.99, and when you factor in the $49.99 cost of the game, it can add up quickly. Alternatively, you could opt for a more budget-friendly option like the 128GB Gigastone card for $49.99, but that may leave you with limited space for future updates for FF7 Rebirth.
