Paranormasight, one of my top horror games from the last five years, is finally getting a sequel. The moment I saw the Storyteller’s striking silver hair and the reveal of The Mermaid’s Curve during the February 5 Partner Direct Showcase, I knew I had to pre-order it immediately and grab one of the best gaming headsets to enhance the experience. The first game was an auditory delight, creating a chilling atmosphere without relying on a grand orchestral score. I’m eager to dive back into that eerie world, and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 Wireless will be my headset of choice. Let the nights of keeping the lights on begin.
The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 Wireless headset, priced at $99.99, connects seamlessly to the Switch 2 via Bluetooth or its 2.4GHz wireless dongle. It features a detachable mic that can be tucked away for solo horror sessions like Paranormasight, along with fast charging capabilities. With a battery life of up to 30 hours, it’s more than enough to get you through the sequel, and a quick 15-minute charge provides an impressive 9 hours of playback.
When I first played Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo in 2023, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 Wireless wasn’t available, and I had to make do with a budget pink cat ear headset gifted to me during my ‘everything must be cute’ phase.
Since then, I’ve revisited the game, which is a compact 10-20 hour experience, solidifying my choice for the sequel. The wind howls around you in the prologue, immersing you in the interactive visual novel gameplay. The sharp sound of dialogue boxes startled me, thanks to the 40mm Neodymium drivers that made them pop against the subtle, eerie soundscape.
That’s the kind of tension I crave in a horror game. I want to feel that unease at every turn, and the clarity of the SteelSeries budget cups delivers just that. When the haunting piano melodies composed by Hidenori Iwasaki play, they resonate beautifully through these headphones, enhancing the unsettling atmosphere.
Much of the first game involves reading documents and character backgrounds in the ‘Files’ menu. The Arctis Nova 3 Wireless excels at highlighting the dissonant piano notes and atmospheric sounds, making it easier to immerse myself in the world, almost like watching a classic horror film.
Weighing in at just 260g, the headset is incredibly lightweight, which is a huge advantage. I want to enjoy the sequel for hours without discomfort. Horror loses its impact if I’m constantly distracted by physical strain, but the elastic strap of the Arctis Nova 3 Wireless keeps it comfortably light.
Ultimately, there’s no single best gaming headset for horror; any high-quality pair for the Nintendo Switch will have its own strengths. For instance, the premium SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless offers active noise cancellation, which can help block out distractions and enhance immersion in the game’s beautifully crafted visuals.
While it might be a bit much for the Switch 2 at $379.99, which is only $120 less than the handheld’s current price of $499.99 at various retailers, it’s an excellent option if you already own one and want to experience The Mermaid’s Curse when it launches on February 19.
For me, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 Wireless is the perfect choice for diving into the depths of this visual novel later this month. Plus, its cute purple color adds a charming contrast to the creepy world of Paranormasight, making it the ideal headset for this chilling adventure.
If the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 Wireless isn’t your style, I’ve also compiled lists of the best PS5 headsets, the best PC headsets for gaming, and the best Xbox Series X headsets for you to explore.
