A new card game from Wizards will be available exclusively through Secret Lair.

Mark Rosewater, the lead designer for Magic: The Gathering, has hinted at an upcoming card game developed by himself and Wizards of the Coast. This new title, humorously referred to as [NON-MAGIC REDACTED] in a blog post, is set to be unveiled at MagicCon Las Vegas, scheduled for May 1-3.

Known to fans as MaRo, Rosewater describes the new game as “a fast, experimental play experience.” Speculation is rife that this could be Mood Swings, a casual game he has mentioned frequently over the years. With games of Mood Swings reportedly lasting only five minutes, it aligns perfectly with the characteristics of this new, enigmatic offering.

The trend of creating quick, accessible games has captured the attention of many designers, and it’s easy to see why. While Magic: The Gathering is a fantastic card game, it often demands a significant time commitment (unless you’re facing a mono-red deck). Additionally, building a competitive deck requires a hefty investment, and mastering the intricacies of the game can take years.

However, there’s a twist. This intriguing new game will be available exclusively as a Secret Lair drop, which may not sit well with Magic fans who have voiced concerns about the availability of Secret Lair products. Wizards has recently confirmed that they will not revert to a print-on-demand model for Secret Lair, so if you’re eager to snag Rosewater’s latest creation, you’ll need to act fast.
