Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats can enhance your gameplay, making your Wild West experience easier or even wilder. Some handy codes can provide you with a stash of cash, allowing Arthur Morgan to enjoy a more comfortable life, or equip you with all the weapons and gear needed to fend off any threat. You can also adjust your honor level, sharpen your shooting skills, or reset your wanted status and bounties for a fresh start.
Keep in mind that the cheats in RDR2 are generally grounded in the game’s reality, so while there are plenty of useful options, they won’t offer the same over-the-top chaos found in other titles. However, these cheat codes can significantly alter your gameplay, allowing you to modify attributes, acquire money, weapons, outfits, and gear, and tailor the Wild West to your preferences.
Using these cheats is straightforward; you’ll enter specific phrases found in newspapers throughout Red Dead Redemption 2. Fortunately, you don’t need to hunt for them all, as you can typically just input the codes directly. Here’s a complete list of Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats and how to use them.
You might stumble upon a cheat code without even realizing it, as many are hidden as random messages in the game world—like carvings on a cabinet or engravings in ice. If you spot some unusual graffiti, it could be a code.
The most reliable way to find cheat codes is by purchasing newspapers. Head to towns like Valentine, Saint Denis, and Blackwater to grab the New Hanover Gazette, Saint Denis Times, or Blackwater Ledger from local sellers. Some cheats are only accessible after completing specific story missions, and certain codes are locked based on your progress, so it’s advisable to finish the campaign first to avoid messing up your main save.
Newspapers are inexpensive, so buy every copy you can find. To locate the codes, open your satchel, grab a paper, flip it over, and zoom in on the bottom. If there’s a tagline under a story, that’s the phrase you’ll need to unlock the cheat code.
To activate cheat codes in Red Dead Redemption 2, pause the game to access the main menu, then go to the Settings tab. In the bottom right corner, you’ll see ‘Cheats’; press Triangle/Y to navigate to that screen. Press Triangle/Y again to open a text box where you can enter any discovered phrases. After entering the codes, you can toggle them on or off in your game. Be cautious—activating cheats will disable autosaving and Trophies or Achievements, so proceed with care! It’s best to enter all desired codes and manually save your game to secure them before experimenting.
When entering cheats, capitalization doesn’t matter, but punctuation must be exact for the codes to work. Most can be entered at any time, but a few require you to purchase the corresponding newspaper first, which we’ve noted in italics along with the point in the story when the relevant paper becomes available. There are 37 cheat codes in Red Dead Redemption 2, as follows:
