Silent Hill is spreading like a contagion, and Konami is committed to expanding its reach in both exciting and questionable ways. Following the lackluster Return to Silent Hill movie and Bloober’s promising remake of Silent Hill 1, the company has confirmed it’s also working on a new title: Silent Hill: Townfall.

Don’t mix it up with the mediocre Silent Hill: Downpour from 2012 or the poorly received interactive series Ascension from 2023. Townfall was initially teased alongside Ascension during a 2022 stream, but Konami has remained tight-lipped about the game for the past four years. However, they did inform a Japanese gaming news site that Townfall is indeed a “brand-new Silent Hill title” currently in development.

In its latest earnings report, Konami vaguely referred to the game as “a continuation of our ongoing efforts,” and the reveal was equally cryptic. A one-minute teaser features an unknown voice commending you for being “here to be punished,” accompanied by fleeting images of bloodied hands and desolate hallways.

Konami is co-publishing the game with Annapurna, known for titles like Outer Wilds and Stray, while development is in the hands of Screen Burn Interactive (formerly No Code). As a long-time Silent Hill fan, I’m left wondering what to make of this. In a 2025 post announcing their name change, Screen Burn mentioned that Townfall was first conceived in 2020. “We keep saying ‘we can’t wait to share more,’ and that’s still true,” the studio behind the sci-fi drama Observation stated. “We’re getting closer, but we’re a small team making a big game.”

So, Townfall is now in its sixth year of active development, with no release date, gameplay footage, or more than a minute of teaser content to show for it. I’m feeling neither excited nor worried. Konami raised my hopes with the elegant Silent Hill f, only to crush them again with Return to Silent Hill. At this point, I might as well give up and see if Pyramid Head will share his number.

Silent Hill legend Akira Yamaoka believes the franchise hasn’t changed as much as fans think, asserting that Konami’s “philosophical approach” has remained consistent.
