The video game movie trend continues as Isabela Merced, known for her roles in Superman and The Last of Us, is set to star in a new adaptation of House of the Dead.
While the House of the Dead film has been in development for some time with Resident Evil director Paul W.S. Anderson attached, it seems the project is officially gaining momentum.
According to reports, Merced is stepping into the world of House of the Dead, based on the hugely popular lightgun game series that dominated arcades in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Additionally, the House of the Dead movie is now considered a “top priority” alongside the ongoing Sonic series and will be pitched at the upcoming European Film Market.
Let’s hope this adaptation performs better than the 2003 film directed by Uwe Boll, which only managed to pull in $13 million at the box office and was panned by both critics and audiences.
With Paul W.S. Anderson at the helm, we can expect thrilling undead action, not to mention the intricate conspiracy-laden mythology and terrifying creatures that define the game series. The latest installment, Scarlet Dawn, hit arcades in 2018, and two remakes of House of the Dead are also available on consoles.
Stay tuned for more on the upcoming video game movies set to release soon, along with all the new horror films ready to give you chills in the next year.
