While I haven’t been diving into Destiny 2 as much lately, my passion for the game remains strong enough that not even the threat of a Bear Grylls cocktail could keep me from logging back in. However, a notable number of Destiny 2 raiders have taken on a solo raid challenge they’ve humorously named “Solo Witness or Drink Pee,” which has certainly caught Bungie’s attention.

In a comment shared on social media, Bungie’s Twitch account acknowledged the alternative community punishment but opted not to spell it out on their official channels.

As you might guess, this challenge involves taking down The Witness, the final boss of the Salvation’s Edge raid from Destiny 2’s Final Shape expansion, all on your own. A handful of players have successfully completed this daunting task, and I’ve seen at least four do it recently under the threat of the aforementioned penalty. Despite the new weapons and ability tweaks introduced post-Final Shape, this challenge remains incredibly tough.

The Witness encounter takes place in a complex arena filled with enemies and intricate mechanics, making it one of the most formidable raid bosses in Destiny’s history. Unlike many bosses that might casually toss an energy grenade your way, The Witness can swiftly eliminate you if you let your guard down. The fight is already a juggling act, and losing even one raider significantly ramps up the difficulty and tightens the margin for error.

Even if you can maneuver through the mechanics well enough to reach the damage phases consistently—something solo raiders often struggle with due to the unpredictable nature of most encounters—you still need to deal damage equivalent to about six players to defeat the boss within the time limit. For most, this challenge is a grueling, daunting experience—much like the penalty itself.

Bungie has also addressed a pre-order glitch for Marathon that amusingly caused Destiny 2 to start installing on Steam, leading to some lighthearted reactions: “Like something out of The Onion.”
