Jetpack Cat in Overwatch is causing chaos already!

Jetpack Cat is set to make her grand entrance when the new season of Overwatch kicks off on February 10, and she’s already proving to be a game-changer. A select group of streamers had the opportunity to test all five upcoming characters at Blizzard’s Irvine campus after the Overwatch Spotlight, and without fail, Jetpack Cat turned every match upside down, living up to the promise of fostering more strategic team compositions.

The real chaos stems from Jetpack Cat’s tether ability, which allows her to carry an ally through the air with remarkable freedom. Players quickly realized how this can make position-based ultimates nearly unstoppable. For instance, she can help D.Va launch her mech behind cover or give Cassidy a bird’s-eye view of the battlefield while he targets with Deadeye.

One streamer, Frogger, showcased Jetpack Cat’s potential by using her to transport his Reinhardt behind enemy lines, enabling him to unleash Earthshatter without drawing attention. You might wonder how the enemy team missed a massive flying tank with a hammer soaring over them, but Cat’s tether is surprisingly stealthy. If you don’t catch the initial grapple, you might not realize what’s happening until it’s too late, which is how Frogger executed several sneaky Reinhardt plays.

The possibilities are nearly limitless. Soldier 76 can activate Tactical Visor to spot everyone, while Wrecking Ball can rain down mines from above. Wuyang even used Tidal Blast on an ally tethered to Cat, dropping them right into the heart of an enemy group just before the wave detonated. Think you’ve escaped Orisa’s Terra Surge? Not if Jetpack Cat has anything to say about it. Her well-timed ultimates can tether enemy heroes, providing massive potential for team saves, like moving Orisa out of harm’s way or safely escorting a Ramattra in Annihilation mode off the map. You could even tether Reinhardt mid-charge to throw him off course.

Jetpack Cat can also influence fights in subtler ways. Streamer SejFinn discovered her assassin potential during a Circuit Royal match. They flew off the map and through a side window in the casino, waiting for a lone enemy to emerge from spawn, then quickly eliminated them with a combo of laser shots and Cat’s scratch ability before they even realized what hit them.

In another match during YouTuber Aspen’s stream, an enemy Jetpack Cat pulled Domina out from behind her shield, allowing their team to swarm without dismantling the shield piece by piece. Later, Aspen, playing as Jetpack Cat, dragged her team’s Domina from spawn into the fray, enabling her to drop her shield and support her struggling teammates. A few moments later, Aspen hid above the enemy spawn with Domina tethered and ready. Once the enemy team left spawn, the still-hidden Domina unleashed her ultimate, trapping everyone in sight. They could still move, but their focus on the objective? Gone.

Jetpack Cat serves as the ultimate distraction. Whenever she appears, at least one teammate (often more) diverts to try and chase her off, even if it means leaving their team vulnerable. It’s a split-second risk-reward decision. While Jetpack Cat may not have the damage output of Sombra or Tracer, her ability to disrupt plans makes her a significant threat if left unchecked.

As a result, abilities that hinder movement have become far more crucial. Mauga’s cage match ultimate can cancel the tether, preventing Jetpack Cat from using it until the cage disappears, while Cassidy’s flashbang and Mizuki’s Binding Chain can keep her from escaping. This is surprisingly vital; in most clips from the event, Jetpack Cat players were only eliminated after being hindered or by another Jetpack Cat. Even Emre players found it challenging to hit her, despite wielding a high-powered hitscan rifle designed for aerial targets.

Given Blizzard’s history of reworking Sombra’s kit, it seems likely that Jetpack Cat will face nerfs and adjustments. If that happens, let’s hope they’re minimal. Jetpack Cat’s chaos is a catalyst for fresh team strategies and new ways to think about your favorite heroes—exactly the kind of innovation Blizzard aimed for when they revitalized Overwatch in 2025.

We won’t have to wait long to see how she shakes things up, as Jetpack Cat will be playable on February 10, coinciding with the start of the new season.
