Porsche Unveils Esports Carrera Cup North America
Porsche Motorsport North America is diving into the realm of virtual racing this year with the launch of the Porsche Esports Carrera Cup North America.
This exciting competition features a six-race championship that closely mirrors the real-life Porsche Carrera Cup North America. Sim racers from the United States, Canada, and Mexico are invited to participate, utilizing a modified version of the iRacing platform with the new Porsche 911 Cup (Type 992.2).
The virtual racing series will kick off at Sebring International Raceway after the official qualifying rounds, followed by the Miami International Autodrome, which is making its debut on iRacing. The third and fourth rounds will take place at Watkins Glen International and Road America, culminating in a thrilling finale at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
Competitors will race using the default iRacing setup of the Type 992.2 Porsche 911 Cup car, which is set to make its real-world debut this season in North America. Both the virtual and real versions feature a 4.0-liter flat-six engine and components from the “road-going Porsche 911 GT3,” delivering 512 hp, as stated by the organizers.
Each race will include a 60-minute practice session, a 15-minute qualifying round, and a 40-minute sprint race. Championship points will be awarded similarly to real-world races, with 25 points for the winner, two bonus points for securing pole position, and one bonus point for the fastest lap. Points will be distributed from first to 15th place. While weather conditions will reflect real-world scenarios, rain will not be a factor.
For those eager to join the competition, registration is available directly through the iRacing platform, but participants must hold a minimum of a D License within the game.
Players will compete for glory and a trophy, with the potential for a monetary prize, though details on that are yet to be revealed. An announcement on the official Discord indicates that more information will be shared in the coming weeks.
