In Mewgenics, mastering cat breeding is a key element of this tactical RPG where you step into the shoes of a professional cat breeder. Keep cats at home, and they will eventually breed. While you can’t dictate which cats mate, there are nuances to the breeding mechanics that can help you if you have specific Mewgenics collars in mind. Here’s what you need to know.

As you progress, you can send kittens to Tink, and once you meet certain thresholds, you’ll unlock more information about your cats, including their sexuality, mood, libido, preferences, and inbreeding levels. Understanding these factors is crucial for effective breeding in Mewgenics.

Every day, a new stray cat will show up at your home, allowing you to expand your collection even if your current squad has fallen during a run. These strays come with randomly generated stats and skills, providing a solid base for your growing army.

Breeding occurs when you end a day with kittens arriving the next morning. However, kittens can’t join battles until their second day. There’s also a chance that nothing will happen overnight, or that cats may get into fights, leading to injuries or even death.

At home, each room has its own stats, determined by cleanliness (cats can be messy) and the furniture you choose. Here’s a breakdown of each stat.

You can expand your house by sending retired cats to Frank, and each room has its own unique stats. However, the appeal stat is shared across the entire house.

A kitten’s stats are inherited from its parents. If they breed in a room with a high stimulation stat, they are more likely to inherit the better stat from either parent. Skills are typically passed down from one parent, but this isn’t guaranteed. Skills can come from cats that have gone on adventures and gained class-based abilities. Again, a higher stimulation stat increases the chances of inheritance.

Here are some tips to help you navigate the Mewgenics desert.

Like stats and skills, mutations and defects are usually inherited from the parents. However, if a room has a high Health stat (10 or above), you can cure defects that cats may have. Not all defects are negative; for instance, Crohn’s Disease, which can cause your cat to leave messes, pairs well with the Crown of Feculence item, which keeps all poop spawned alive and on your team.

Cats come in three genders: Male, Female, and ?. Each cat has a sexuality, which can be Straight, Gay/Lesbian, or Bisexual.

Cats of the same gender cannot breed. So, if your house is filled with gay cats, you won’t get kittens, but you may see an increase in gay strays with class abilities inherited from any cats that did mate that night.

Each cat has additional stats that you can uncover by sending kittens to Tink.

If all of this feels overwhelming, don’t stress too much. During my 100+ hours of gameplay, I mostly went with the flow, not getting too caught up in the breeding mechanics. However, mastering these details allows you to engineer your ideal cats—almost like it’s… Mewgenics.
