The Matriarch stands as the most formidable foe in Arc Raiders, an evolved version of the Queen that can summon other enemies, boasts heavy armor, and wields force field shields and missile strikes. Facing this colossal threat requires top-tier gear and at least three allies, all equally equipped.

Even with a solid team, victory isn’t guaranteed. To maximize your chances, we’ll break down the Matriarch’s weaknesses, recommend the best weapons, and share essential strategies. Plus, we’ll outline the potential rewards and loot to help you decide if the fight is worth it.

The Matriarch’s primary weakness lies in its Core, followed by its Leg Joints. The Core is housed within a massive red spherical reactor, but you’ll need to breach the armor surrounding it first.

The most effective way to do this is by targeting the curved top of the Matriarch’s body, the concave cap, which is more susceptible to damage than other armor sections. However, reaching it can be tricky. If you manage to break that section, you can access the Core easily. Using a Snap Hook to reach that spot and placing a Deadline mine can deal significant damage! Alternatively, the face plates are also less armored, but attacking there puts you in direct line of fire.

The leg joints, or knees, are another target. While not as vulnerable as the Core, damaging them can cripple the Matriarch’s mobility, preventing it from stomping on players. If you decide to focus on these, coordinate with your team to concentrate fire effectively.

To take down the Matriarch, equip long-range, armor-piercing weapons and explosives that are efficient with ammo, as this battle can drag on. Here are some gear suggestions:

Ultimately, this fight tests your endurance: with fewer than six players, it can take a long time to defeat the Matriarch, so be prepared with ample supplies and anticipate mistakes. If you don’t have the Anvil, consider using any Legendary or Epic weapons, or the Renegade for its versatility and ammo efficiency.

Given that the Matriarch is an evolved form of the Arc Raiders Queen, it’s best to engage from above and at a distance. The Matriarch’s ability to summon powerful allies like Bastions and Leapers makes it crucial to stay out of their reach. High vantage points, such as those in the Spaceport, provide natural cover and keep you safe from many enemies.

Upon defeat, the Matriarch drops random loot, but only one item is unique: the Matriarch Reactor, which can drop from any of its parts.

Keep in mind that the number of players needed to take down a Matriarch often means there aren’t enough Reactors to go around. If you’ve been fighting from a distance, you might miss out on the loot. Get close to the Matriarch once it’s on fire to ensure you’re first in line for the spoils.

The Matriarch Reactor doesn’t serve a purpose on its own; it’s used to craft The Aphelion, a legendary battle rifle. If you don’t have the Aphelion blueprint, it can only be found in Stella Montis and is extremely rare. If you manage to defeat the Matriarch without the blueprint, hold onto the Reactor until you acquire it.
