Welcome back to our guide featuring the best new shows and movies. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we have at least one romance-themed recommendation this week, but don’t worry—there’s plenty of action, horror, and adventure to explore as well.

This week’s highlight is the second season of Cross on Prime Video, where James Patterson’s detective hero returns to track down a new killer. Eternity on Apple TV offers a bittersweet rom-com starring Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen. Plus, some beloved favorites are back in The Black Phone and Stargate SG-1.

We’ve curated these titles from some of the best streaming services available. After you finish here, be sure to check out our guides for everything new on Netflix and Disney Plus this February.

The second season of this thriller series, based on James Patterson’s bestselling novels, brings back homicide detective Alex Cross. While Prime Video is keeping the details under wraps, we know that after solving the “Fanboy Killer” case last season, Cross is now pursuing a knife-wielding vigilante targeting corrupt billionaires.

Expect to learn more about Cross’s partner, Detective John Sampson, and meet several new characters, including Wes Chatham, Matthew Lillard, and Jeanine Mason. The first three episodes drop on February 11, with the rest of the season releasing weekly until March 18.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, we had to highlight a new romantic comedy. Eternity, directed by David Freyne, reimagines the genre as an afterlife fantasy. Larry (Miles Teller) and terminally ill Joan (Elizabeth Olsen) have been married for decades, but it’s Larry who dies first, choking on a pretzel. Joan eventually reunites with him in the afterlife but must choose between spending eternity with him or her first husband, Luke (Callum Turner), who died in the Korean War and has been waiting for her.

Which man will Joan choose? Can all three find a happy ending? Eternity is a charming film arriving just before the big day on February 13.

Remember The ‘Burbs? The 1989 black comedy starring Tom Hanks followed an average family man who suspects his new neighbors of sinister activities. This eight-episode TV adaptation features Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall as a young couple moving to Ashfield Place, “the safest town in America.” Naturally, things aren’t as they seem, and they soon find themselves embroiled in a murder mystery involving a creepy old house and multiple suspects.

This remake has a vibe reminiscent of Only Murders in the Building, but that’s a good thing. Palmer shines in the lead role, supported by a cast of quirky characters. The series is now streaming in full on Peacock.

Available: US/UK Where to watch: Netflix

Scott Derrickson’s gripping horror film, a critical and commercial success upon its release in 2021, launched a new franchise. Mason Thames stars as Finney, a teenage boy kidnapped by a serial killer known as the Grabber. When an old rotary phone in the killer’s lair starts ringing, Finney connects with the spirits of past victims who may help him escape.

Set in the 1970s, The Black Phone is an atmospheric chiller with a retro vibe and echoes of classic Stephen King. Ethan Hawke delivers a terrifying performance as the Grabber. If you haven’t seen it yet, now’s your chance as it arrives on Netflix on February 12.

Also returning for a second season this week is a fun comedy adventure series loosely inspired by Charles Dickens’ Artful Dodger from Oliver Twist. In the first season, Jack Dawkins (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) leaves his pickpocket past behind to become a promising young doctor in Australia. However, when Fagin (David Thewlis) reenters his life, he’s pulled back into the world of crime.

In season 2, Jack is pursued by the deadly Inspector Henry Boxer (Luke Bracey), who also has his sights set on Jack’s love, Lady Belle (Maia Mitchell). The second season is streaming in full on Disney Plus from February 10.

All 10 seasons of one of the ’90s and ’00s most beloved sci-fi shows are hitting Netflix this week. Stargate SG-1, which spun off from the 1994 film, doesn’t require prior viewing of the movie. The premise is simple: humanity discovers a ring-shaped portal called the Stargate, allowing travel to other worlds. SG-1 is the team—led by Colonel Jack O’Neill and scientist Daniel Jackson—who steps through the gate each week, often facing the villainous alien Goa’uld.

With a new Stargate series in development, now is the perfect time to revisit the original show. Fans of Star Trek and similar series will find themselves in sci-fi heaven.
