Amazon’s God of War series has officially cast Kratos, Atreus, and the entire supporting lineup.
Filming for the highly anticipated adaptation of the God of War franchise on Amazon Prime Video hasn’t kicked off yet, but pre-production is buzzing with activity, especially with recent casting announcements. We now know who will portray Kratos and his son Atreus, along with key characters like Thor, Sif, Heimdall, and Odin.
Ryan Hurst, best known for his role as Opie in Sons of Anarchy, will take on the iconic role of Kratos. Upon his casting as the God of War, he expressed his excitement on social media, saying, “Used to play as him. Now I get to be him. Grateful to pick up the axe and honored by the fans who made this story legendary.”
Joining the cast is Callum Vinson, known for his work in Poker Face, who will play Atreus, Kratos’ son and a pivotal character in the series. According to a description from Prime Video, “God of War follows father and son, Kratos and Atreus, as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”
The first two episodes of God of War will be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye, a seasoned director with experience on shows like Shōgun and The Boys. He recently served as an executive producer and director for the season 2 finale of Prime Video’s Fallout.
God of War is set to premiere on Prime Video in 2027.
