Set in a near-futuristic Italy, Arc Raiders features a map named Stella Montis, which has become infamous among players for its PvP action and other player antics. After discovering that players have been leaving humorous reviews of the Stella Montis hotel, parodying their in-game experiences, CEO Patrick Söderlund of Embark Studios expressed his desire to “apologize.”

In a conversation, Söderlund admitted he was unaware of the hotel review trend: “I’m reading them now. I see. ‘I don’t recommend this for solo players’ [laughs]. I didn’t know about that. That’s amazing. I feel sorry for the poor hotel, though. I’ll probably have to call them and apologize.”

One review noted: “The only issue is that players sometimes spawn just ten meters away from me.”

Another player, who seems to have a different experience, commented: “The people there are very nice, nobody shoots, and occasionally someone even comes by with a flute.”

Söderlund credited CCO Stefan Strandberg for much of Arc Raiders’ Italian inspiration. “We also felt like Italy is a good place for a lot of this to happen for multiple reasons,” he explained.

The connection to the Stella Montis hotel is a fortunate coincidence, and the review bomb—largely positive, with many humorous four and five-star ratings—adds another layer to Arc Raiders’ social experience.

“I will find out because now I’m intrigued – and I probably will call up that hotel and apologize for what we’ve caused them,” Söderlund added. “That wasn’t intended, but I’ll promise to get back to you with a reply on that!”
