Steven Spielberg has been exploring alien themes throughout his career, with his upcoming film Disclosure Day being the latest addition to his sci-fi repertoire. The iconic director notes that what distinguishes Disclosure Day from classics like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the growing public demand for answers about “what’s happening in our skies.”

“I’ve always been intrigued by the unexplainable. I’ve created many films about mysteries, from sharks to UFOs,” Spielberg shares in a new featurette about Disclosure Day.

“As a child, I developed a deep curiosity about the night sky and what lies beyond. I believe there is life beyond our planet,” he adds. “The public’s interest in understanding not just what’s happening in our skies, but also in our realities, has reached a tipping point. People are captivated by the question, ‘Are we alone, or not?’ And if someone knows we’re not alone, why hasn’t that information been shared?”

In UFOlogy, “disclosure” refers to the expectation that the US government will eventually acknowledge the existence of extraterrestrial life and reveal the hidden information that has been kept from the public.

As Spielberg highlights, the topic of disclosure has gained traction among a broader audience, fueled by a surge of new video evidence of UAPs—Unexplained Aerial Phenomena—and a wave of whistleblowers adding to the conversation.

Disclosure Day is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026. In the meantime, dive into our collection of the best sci-fi movies of all time and stay informed about the most exciting upcoming films you won’t want to miss.
