New ESRB Listing Hints at Upcoming Resident Evil 5 Remake

The Entertainment Software Ratings Board may have just let slip the upcoming reveal of Capcom’s next Resident Evil remake, as a listing for Resident Evil 5 has surfaced on the ESRB’s website for Xbox Series. While the page doesn’t mention a PlayStation 5 version, the timing raises eyebrows, especially with Sony announcing a State of Play livestream for February 12. For reference, the Resident Evil 4 Remake was unveiled during a State of Play back in June 2022.

The ESRB listing for the Xbox Series version of Resident Evil 5 is light on details, but one notable aspect suggests this could be a full remake: the “In-Game Purchases” label.

Capcom has a history of including microtransaction-style DLCs at launch for their recent titles, like the “Treasure Map: Expansion” for Resident Evil 4 Remake and the controversial “Portcrystal” DLC for Dragon’s Dogma 2. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Resident Evil 5 included all previously released DLC and were released before Capcom’s trend of MTX-style launch content. This hints that the version listed on the ESRB’s site might indeed be a remake.

Additionally, the ESRB listing aligns with a recent post from Eva La Dare, who provided the voice and motion capture for Sheva Alomar in Resident Evil 5. In her post on X last month, she teased, “Got a few fun things lined up for March. Stay tuned!❤️ #residentevil30thanniversary,” along with hashtags like “#residentevil5,” “#shevaalomar,” and “#RE5.”

Interestingly, some leakers have countered this, insisting that the next Resident Evil project after Resident Evil Requiem will be a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. Hopefully, the upcoming State of Play will shed some light on the situation, as the chances of the ESRB listing being an error seem quite slim.
