If you’ve just jumped into the chaotic world of Cyberstan in Helldivers 2, you might be eager to learn how to take down a Vox Engine. These formidable new Automaton enemies are equipped with a barrage of lasers, miniguns, and rockets, and they seem to withstand a lot of damage, especially from standard explosives, orbitals, and airstrikes.
After some intense encounters, I’ve discovered the most effective way to bring these giants down—there’s a hidden weak spot. Below, I’ll guide you on where to find it so you can eliminate these pesky foes quickly, though the method might not be your favorite. It certainly wasn’t mine.
Vox Engines are among the toughest automaton constructs in Helldivers 2, seemingly able to absorb more damage than even a Factory Strider. However, they do have a clear weak point—their underbelly. If you manage to get underneath a Vox Engine, right between its two sets of tracks, you’ll spot a glowing area that you can shoot or hit with Thermite. I found that tossing a couple of Thermite grenades does the trick.
Of course, getting under a Vox Engine is no easy feat, given their 360-degree firing capabilities with side-mounted miniguns. I recommend bringing a shield generator and using cover to get as close as possible before making your move. Alternatively, you can take them down the traditional way with overwhelming firepower. Think Orbital Lasers, Hellbombs (whether laser-guided or back-mounted), or just a bunch of Thermite grenades thrown at it.
If you’re having a tough time with Vox Engines, consider using the group shield generator Stratagem available for the assault on Cyberstan. This will allow you to establish a protected firing position against Vox Engines while absorbing most of their fire for a limited time. Given their durability, if you’re not going to sneak underneath one, teamwork and focusing your fire as a group will be essential to taking them down.
