Lenovo seems to be taking inspiration from RedMagic with its upcoming tablet, as recent teasers suggest the Legion Y700 will feature a staggering 24GB of RAM. This impressive amount promises to handle demanding games and multitasking with ease, especially when paired with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. It’s gearing up to compete with some of the best gaming tablets currently available.

Earlier this week, Lenovo shared new details on Weibo about this upcoming device. It will sport an 8.8-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 3,040 x 1,904, along with a 1TB storage option. The RAM configuration has everyone buzzing.

The Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 5 is expected to come in 12GB, 16GB, or 24GB RAM options, paired with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB SSDs. This aligns with the RedMagic Astra, which launched last year as a powerhouse from the creators of some of the best gaming phones on the market.

However, one key detail remains uncertain. The RedMagic Astra outperformed its rivals with impressive speed and stability during tests, thanks in part to its 24GB of LPDDR5T RAM, the same type of memory that keeps the RedMagic 11 Pro competitive. It’s still unclear whether the Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 5 will utilize this faster memory or stick with the LPDDR5X RAM found in its predecessor.

What’s the impact? More than you might expect.

In a smaller form factor, the RedMagic 11 Air dropped the LPDDR5T memory from its specs when it launched earlier this year. While the 11 Pro achieved a remarkable score of 8,000 points in Wild Life Extreme, the 11 Air settled for a score of 6,912.

Of course, many factors contribute to those final benchmark scores. The Air is a thinner, lighter, and more budget-friendly device with less advanced cooling. RAM alone isn’t solely responsible for that performance gap.

Still, it plays a role, and as the mobile gaming scene heats up with tighter margins for error, all eyes will be on the finer details of Lenovo’s specifications leading up to the launch.
