New Black Myth: Zhong Kui Video Showcases Demonic Culinary Skills
To ring in the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Horse, the developers of Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science, have released a six-minute cooking show. This entertaining video not only teaches viewers how to whip up a delicious fish soup but also serves as an in-engine sneak peek for their upcoming title: Black Myth: Zhong Kui.
Set to follow the release of Black Myth: Wukong in 2024, Black Myth: Zhong Kui will be the second entry in the Black Myth series. The first game garnered numerous accolades, although it notably missed out on the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards, much to the developers’ chagrin. Like its predecessor, Black Myth: Zhong Kui will be a single-player action RPG steeped in Chinese folklore. This time, players will step into the shoes of Zhong Kui, a renowned Taoist deity and exorcist known as the Ghost King, rather than the Monkey King.
Given Zhong Kui’s background, players can expect to face a variety of ghostly and demonic adversaries when Black Myth: Zhong Kui launches, though the cooking video doesn’t showcase any of them just yet. Instead, it features a woman chopping vegetables alongside a seemingly possessed fish, while a man interacts with a large seashell, asking a friendly-looking demon inside for a piece of googly-eyed meat.
The woman continues her culinary adventure by harvesting chives from a slumbering demon-baby plant, then proceeds to grind a couple of red mini-demons before snagging a fruit from a tree-man casually passing by. Despite the demonic elements, the scene maintains a tranquil vibe—until the very end, when the cook presents her dish to a masked prisoner under the watchful gaze of a guardian who might be Zhong Kui, though it’s hard to tell in the dim light.
It’s important to note that this Black Myth: Zhong Kui video is labeled as “non-canon and for entertainment purposes only” by the developers, meaning it primarily showcases the game’s graphics, setting, and atmosphere rather than revealing any plot details.
While the figure at the end may not be Zhong Kui himself, we did catch a glimpse of the Ghost King in the reveal trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui released in August 2025; he’s depicted as a large, dark-skinned man with a beard riding a tiger. As of now, neither video has provided a release date for the sequel to Black Myth: Wukong.
