In the latest buzz, Devil May Cry actor Brian Hanford has responded to speculation about a potential announcement for Devil May Cry 6 during the upcoming State of Play, but he claims to be in the dark.

Recently, a rumor surfaced on a popular forum suggesting that Devil May Cry 6 might make an appearance at the State of Play, which has since been confirmed. With Sony set to showcase later this week, excitement is building. However, considering it’s only been two years since Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched and several key figures associated with DMC have departed from Capcom, I’m skeptical. Plus, Nero’s voice actor, Johnny Young Bosch, has been vocal about wanting a sixth installment.

Hanford, who voices V in Devil May Cry 5, reacted to the rumor with a playful “Ummmmmmmmmm” and a shifty eyes emoji. When fans caught wind of his response, he clarified on Twitter, “Trust me, if I knew anything, I’d say. Just out here getting excited about rumors and tweets.”

Given V’s narrative arc in Devil May Cry, which seems to have reached its conclusion since he was the human side of Vergil, I’m inclined to take his word for it. This isn’t the first time Hanford has stirred excitement over something that didn’t pan out; back in 2020, he expressed his enthusiasm for a new Capcom VS game that never came to fruition.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first instance of a Devil May Cry voice actor hinting at future projects. Vergil’s actor, Dan Southworth, casually mentioned during a panel in 2015 that “now they’re going to bring us back,” inadvertently revealing the development of Devil May Cry 5. While Southworth did mention being asked to voice a “younger Vergil” in a panel in 2024, I’m still keeping my expectations in check.

Capcom aims to elevate Devil May Cry to a “core IP” status, similar to Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.
