Lorwyn Eclipsed Breaks Magic: The Gathering Records

Lorwyn Eclipsed has officially claimed the title of the fastest-selling original Magic: The Gathering set ever, highlighting the ongoing growth of Wizards of the Coast’s iconic card game. This achievement also underscores that the game can thrive without relying solely on Universes Beyond crossovers.

During a recent earnings call on February 10, Hasbro’s CEO Chris Cocks revealed that Magic continues to be the company’s flagship brand, generating an impressive $1.7 billion in revenue last year. He announced that Lorwyn Eclipsed, which launched globally on January 23, has surpassed last year’s Tarkir: Dragonstorm to become the fastest-selling in-universe premier set. Additionally, Cocks noted that the previous set, November 2025’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, ranks as the third best-selling Universes Beyond set, following The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth and Final Fantasy.

While Hasbro typically avoids discussing specific sales figures for individual Magic sets, Cocks has previously mentioned a $200 million benchmark when comparing Final Fantasy and The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. The latter achieved $200 million in sales over six months, while Final Fantasy reportedly reached that figure in just one day. It’s likely that Lorwyn Eclipsed’s sales are not close to these numbers. However, the success of crossover sets does not diminish the fact that Lorwyn Eclipsed demonstrates that Magic’s core fantasy themes can still drive the game’s release schedule and set new records.

Cocks also confirmed that Magic had a record-breaking fourth quarter in 2025, with sales increasing by nearly 60 percent for the entire year. The Secret Lair series also had its best quarter ever, along with strong backlist sales for previous sets. Fans and collectors are engaging with the game in diverse ways, which is proving to be highly profitable for Hasbro. “We are building a system of play with multiple entry points, product types, and engagement paths, and that system is positioned to continue driving growth into 2026 and beyond,” Cocks stated.

Lorwyn Eclipsed launched at a time when Wizards seems more confident than ever in its release schedule, which has ramped up significantly in recent years. In 2026, there will be a total of seven sets, with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set to release on March 6. For now, Lorwyn Eclipsed stands as the largest mainline Magic set to date. The question remains: can Secrets of Strixhaven surpass it in April, or will Reality Fracture take the crown in October? Only time will tell.
