Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse, under its global Cognosphere brand, is taking legal action against a prominent leaker for allegedly misappropriating its copyrighted material, aiming to shut down the popular HomDGcat wiki and seek damages.
According to court documents from February in Georgia, Cognosphere claims that the leaker, known as HomDGcat, “built a substantial online following by unlawfully obtaining and disseminating copies of infringing and confidential unreleased content from Cognosphere Games,” specifically related to Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.
HomDGcat is a well-known figure in the HoYo community, with his wiki serving as a hub for guides, calculators, and information about unreleased characters and content. The wiki was recently updated to include details about the new Genshin Impact character Zibai.
The character Keqing represents the site, which HomDGcat describes as a resource to “efficiently provide data for all players, so that everyone can easily obtain the information they need.”
Cognosphere alleges that HomDGcat has engaged in extensive copyright infringement and has been circumventing technological measures meant to protect its confidential information, actively encouraging others to breach their confidentiality obligations.
Cognosphere estimates that HomDGcat has “published and disseminated thousands, if not tens of thousands, of pieces of unreleased content,” including “copyrighted artwork for all of the primary characters and creatures from Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.” The lawsuit includes multiple screenshots of wiki and Telegram posts sharing character and enemy details ahead of their official release.
HoYoverse has been tightening its grip on leakers and potential leakers during beta tests for years. With numerous lawsuits filed and hefty penalties imposed, leakers from Genshin Impact to Zenless Zone Zero have become more cautious about sharing pre-release information, often obscuring identifying details and using various accounts and aliases.
The HomDGcat wiki now features a disclaimer stating, “HomDGCat Wiki will only update live game data in the future,” likely in response to the ongoing leak issues.
Cognosphere claims it “attempted to resolve this matter informally” in December 2025 by sending a cease-and-desist letter to HomDGcat via email and FedEx, but the leaker only replied on December 29, stating he disagreed with Cognosphere’s claims and would comply with “some” of their demands.
This response was insufficient for the company, which is seeking to “enjoin any further misappropriation and infringement,” including the closure of the HomDGcat wiki and its social media accounts, as well as a court ruling for “the full measure of damages and other relief to which it is entitled.” The exact damages remain unspecified and are “to be proven at trial.”
After four years, the mystery game from the developers of Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail appears to be revealed as the open-world title Varsapura, showcased in a trailer that echoes the vibes of Control so strongly that Remedy might have heard it all the way in Finland.
