A fresh look at Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly/Spider-Man in Spider-Noir has surfaced, showcasing a unique take on this Spidey variant, who first appeared in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, also voiced by Cage. He promises to bring his signature eccentricity and intensity to the role, blending classic film noir elements with a touch of cartoonish flair.
“For me, this character was 70 percent Bogart, and 30 percent Bugs Bunny,” Cage shares. “I was basically Mel Blanc doing Bogart, with that sarcastic sense of humor. But it’s a hundred percent me.”
“You’ll see other influences emerge as well. I did look at Cagney and Edward G. Robinson,” Cage adds. “When you watch Bogart and those around him, he almost seems like a cartoon character. The same applies here. It’s brilliant, and you can’t take your eyes off him. That’s what makes him so compelling and charismatic. He just didn’t sound like anyone else. It felt larger than life.”
Honestly, a mix of 70 percent Bogart, 30 percent Bugs Bunny, and 100 percent Nicolas Cage is a formula that has me excited for Spider-Noir, especially to see how Cage brings Ben Reilly to life. I’m getting serious Darkman vibes, and that’s high praise.
The series will be available in both black and white and color, allowing you to choose your viewing experience or even switch it up. Personally, I’m leaning towards the black and white version—after all, it’s a film noir. You can check out examples of both versions in the gallery below:
Spider-Noir is set to premiere later this year, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet. It will first be available on the MGM+ app before arriving on Prime Video just a day later.
