Mewgenics’ second act raises the stakes by introducing the Desert’s Heat Wave debuff. This challenge reduces all healing by one and disables automatic healing after battles, making survival in prolonged fights a real struggle.

Fortunately, with the right strategies, dealing with Heat Wave and navigating the Desert can be manageable. Here’s a breakdown of how to cool off effectively.

The Heat Wave debuff can only be cleared using water sources, like puddles or water bottles. It’s important to note that it cannot be removed by Cleanse or other purifying spells available to classes like the Cleric.

One effective method is to create water tiles on the ground by breaking the short, fat cacti scattered around the arena (though this will inflict damage) or by using abilities like Number One, which is accessible to all classes. Standing on a water tile will soak your cat and eliminate the debuff.

A more convenient option is to use water bottles. You can buy these at locations marked with a water droplet signpost on the map. Empty bottles cost just one coin, half-full bottles are three coins, and full bottles with two charges are five coins. You can refill your bottles by standing in a water tile, making it quite easy. Just be careful not to throw the bottle at an enemy, as that will break your valuable supplies.

If you have an ability like Number One that can create water without taking damage, I recommend saving coins by purchasing empty bottles for each of your cats. Otherwise, stock up on full bottles to clear the debuff after each fight. Drinking from a bottle also provides a small healing boost.

You can also bring items from previous runs. Consider taking water bottles or items like the Water Feeder, which will wet your cat if you have it.

Otherwise, just hope for a Rainy Day weather effect to completely negate the Heat Wave debuff.
