Magic: The Gathering Confirms No Harry Potter Sets in Development Despite Hasbro’s Ambitious Plans
Wizards of the Coast has made it clear that Harry Potter won’t be making an appearance in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse anytime soon. On February 10, Hasbro announced a “multi-year licensing partnership” with Warner Bros. Discovery to create a range of Harry Potter-themed products, including dolls, action figures, board games, and more, set to be unveiled later this year. This led to speculation among Magic fans about a potential Harry Potter Universes Beyond set. However, the Wizards of the Coast community team quickly put those rumors to rest, stating, “The Magic Multiverse has its own school of Magic at Strixhaven with plenty of secrets still to explore. Our Universes Beyond roadmap currently doesn’t have us visiting any others.”
Following the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universes Beyond set, which is set to release on March 6, the next Magic set will be Secrets of Strixhaven, launching on April 24. This set will delve into the magical university located on the plane of Arcavios, making it clear that Wizards likely wants to keep the focus on Magic’s own school of witchcraft and wizardry. (Though, let’s be honest, Strixhaven participating in the Tri-Wizard Tournament would be pretty epic.)
It’s worth noting that the lines can get a bit blurry when it comes to collaborations between Hasbro, Wizards, and other brands. Just hours after the Harry Potter partnership was announced, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks discussed it while highlighting Magic’s ongoing success. One slide in his presentation even featured Harry Potter alongside posters for K-Pop Demon Hunters, Street Fighter, and Voltron movies.
Earlier in February, Hasbro revealed a toy collaboration with Legendary Entertainment for the new Street Fighter movie, a franchise that has previously seen Secret Lair Drops. Additionally, Hasbro announced a toy licensing deal for K-Pop Demon Hunters back in October 2025. Shortly after, during the 2025 Q3 earnings call, Cocks confirmed that Wizards would release a K-Pop Demon Hunters Secret Lair Drop in 2026. In September 2025, a broader Play-Doh collaboration was also announced, leading to a Secret Lair Drop just weeks later. Given this history, it’s not too far-fetched to think Harry Potter could eventually find its way into Magic.
With the brand now firmly within the Hasbro ecosystem, the possibility of a Harry Potter Universes Beyond set seems more likely than ever. The franchise naturally aligns with Magic’s themes of wizards, goblins, wands, and dragons, especially when compared to some other upcoming crossovers.
Despite Wizards’ reassurances, the speculation highlights how blurred the lines between Hasbro’s brands have become. With sets based on Marvel Super Heroes, The Hobbit, and Star Trek all on the horizon, the potential for Magic feels limitless. As the company continues to forge partnerships across toys, films, and games that increasingly intersect with Magic—its most profitable venture—it’s easy to see why fans believe Harry Potter could eventually join the fray. For now, though, Strixhaven remains the only wizarding school Magic players will be exploring in the near future.
