As development on The Witcher 4 progresses, CD Projekt Red is bringing in new talent with impressive backgrounds, like Dorian Kieken, the studio’s new AI director and a veteran from BioWare, known for his work on the Mass Effect series.
Kieken spent eight years at BioWare, starting as a producer on Sonic Chronicles before becoming development director and co-founding the Montreal studio. He contributed to major projects like Mass Effect 2 and 3, including their DLC. After leaving in 2015, he founded his own AI startup, AI Redefined, also known as “AIR.”
Now, he’s making a return to game development, taking on the role of AI director at CD Projekt Red. In a recent post, he expressed his excitement, stating, “After eight years of building memorable RPGs at BioWare and eight years of building cutting-edge AI solutions at AI Redefined, it is finally time to bring all of that together in my new role at CDPR as AI Director.”
Kieken will oversee the company’s AI vision and strategy, and he’s thrilled to be part of the team. This isn’t the first time CD Projekt Red has welcomed experienced developers; just two months ago, former Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Felix Pedulla joined as a senior cinematic designer, with more positions opening up soon. Kieken’s startup, AI Redefined, was recently acquired by CM Labs. Here’s hoping he finds his groove quickly, and that the future is as bright for The Witcher team as the last decade has been.
The Witcher 4 is projected to cost CD Projekt nearly $800 million in development and marketing, according to analysts, who also anticipate new DLC for The Witcher 3 this year.
