Resident Evil Requiem Fans Alarmed by Sudden Cancellation Emails from Amazon

Players who pre-ordered Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil Requiem through Amazon are finding that the real horror of this survival sequel might not be in the game itself. Instead, many are dreading the moment they check their email to find out their order has been canceled.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27 for consoles and PC. Like many major game launches in recent years, it will be available in several different editions for pre-order. Among these is a Deluxe Steelbook version, which includes all the digital extras you’d expect, such as skins and costumes, along with a sturdy steelbook case and some lenticular cards. This edition was highly sought after and sold out quickly. When Amazon reopened pre-orders, gamers jumped at the chance, but now many are reporting cancellations due to insufficient stock.

A quick look at the Resident Evil subreddit reveals numerous posts from players sharing their dismay over canceled pre-orders. It appears that many had ordered the Deluxe Steelbook edition when Amazon made it available again. Unfortunately, it seems Amazon oversold the stock, leading to emails notifying customers that their orders were canceled and refunded because the item was no longer “available from the supplier.”

Some players discovered that their pre-ordered Deluxe Edition was still set to ship, but it won’t arrive until weeks after the launch in March. Meanwhile, a new “Amazon Exclusive Edition” has appeared on the site, which includes a poster and seems to be a substitute for the now-unavailable Deluxe Edition. However, if you’re hoping to dive into the latest Resident Evil sequel at launch, steer clear of this new edition, as it also won’t arrive until March. One frustrated player shared a screenshot of their Amazon Exclusive Edition, noting it wouldn’t arrive until March 28, nearly a month after the game’s release. Ouch.

Inquiries have been made to Amazon and Capcom regarding this situation. For now, if you want to ensure you can play Resident Evil Requiem at launch, consider purchasing a digital copy or look for alternatives outside of Amazon.
